"Message In A Bottle" (Usand Them)

Laura picked her way across the cool grass, into the kitchen leaving the boys alone to swim in the abyss of the starry night sky without a guide.

"Light goes on forever. If we knew Morris code we could send a message and someone somewhere would get our message some day." " You know ....like a message in a bottle."

Jack could feel the weight of the luminous shaft that swiveled from his
abdomen scanning the expanse above, as he flipped the flashlight on and off, firing bursts up into the summer night's sky.

"How would they know Morse Code you dumass?" "They could figure it out"
"Well, what if they don't have eyes?"

"What if they don't? They're millions and millions of miles away. This beam won't reach them even at the speed of light for thousands of years. It would take them forever to get here. We'll be dead by then."

The light from the kitchen window cast it's own illumination across the lawn and Laura could just make out the boys in the backyard from where she stood on the porch.

Jack continued to blast away at the heavens, maybe signaling aliens an eternity away in an unconscious attempt at immortality, while David turned his gaze into the house with a pang of uncertainty, and then at the stars. The stars winked on
and off above.

"What if they are signaling us?" Jack stopped his light show just long enough to
burp talk a reply. "They are 'ignaling uzzzzz ..... burrr-up ........We juuuuzzzd-oun't understand emmmmb"
